The following are answers to frequently asked questions regarding Westside’s reopening plan.

Q: What happens to all the health requirements at Westside on July 1?

A: For the protection of our members, visitors, staff and volunteers, Westside will maintain some health controls and protocols. These measures will be regularly evaluated and may be eased as we move forward through summer. Health requirements at Westside are subject to change as new guidelines and/or restrictions are issued by local health authorities.

Q: Do I need to wear a mask?

A: Westside recommends and supports wearing a face mask in common areas while you visit, but recognizes that this is a personal choice. Our staff will continue to wear face masks until the end of July to provide the opportunity for our younger employees, volunteers and guests to be vaccinated.

Q: What steps is Westside taking to keep facilities healthy and safe going forward?

A: Westside will take a multi-faceted approach to reduce the risk of virus transmission. We will continue with deep cleaning and sanitizing, managing spaces to reduce crowding, and monitoring air quality.

Q: Will members and guests require a vaccine to visit?

A: Westside fully supports the benefits of vaccines and their role in keeping people and our communities safe. Although we will not require vaccinations for participants, we have controls in place to minimize risk based on the practices we established during the pandemic.

Q: Are Westside staff and volunteers required to be vaccinated?

A: Westside fully supports the benefits of vaccines and their role in keeping people and our communities safe. As an organization, we have taken steps to ensure it’s as easy as possible for our staff to participate in Alberta’s vaccination program. Westside does not ask for, collect or store sensitive medical information from our staff, volunteers, members or visitors.

Q: Why do I need to sign a waiver to reactivate my membership/monthly pass?

A: We want you to have a clear understanding of the risks associated with participating in Westside programs and activities at this time. It is important that we all work together to keep our communities healthy and safe.

A signed waiver is required before you enter Westside. You can sign the waiver online here: Westside Waivers. Completing your waiver ahead of time will save you from having to complete it at Customer Service when you return for your first visit. If you’ve already signed the waiver, you do not need to complete it again.

Q: What if I see someone who is exhibiting symptoms of illness at Westside?

A: Please tell a staff member if you are ever concerned for someone’s wellbeing in the facility. We have procedures in place to provide individuals with an isolated/safe space, emergency care, and transportation to a medical facility.

Q: Will lobby seating and food services be available at Westside?

A: Not at this time. Lobby space and food services are temporarily unavailable.

Q: I’m not ready to come back just yet. Can I keep my membership on hold?

A: Yes, we will only reactivate your membership upon request at this time. However, we are planning to reactivate all memberships when we are fully operational. We anticipate full reactivation in late summer, and will communicate with you in advance.
